FAQ
Where and how often does the group meet?
We meet once a week online. After your phone screen, you will be sent login information.
How many members attend on average?
Most meetings have between 5 - 12 members in attendance, depending on the night.
Is regular attendance required?
We encourage group members to attend consistently, as this contributes to the creation of a space that is safe and predictable. You are never required to attend.
What is the make up of the group? How diverse is it?
It’s a robust group, with men at different stages in their process, and varied sexual orientations, races, and nationalities.
I'm not exactly sure I qualify for this group. What if I'm not sure what happened to me was "abuse"? What if my memories are fuzzy?
You're not alone. Many members of the group have asked this question. If your life is being impacted by a sexual encounter between you and someone who was in a position of power when you were a boy -- because of age, or position, or both -- you qualify. If you have only fragmented memories, but feel certain you were sexually abused, regardless of whether you can remember who, when, how -- you qualify.
What is the cost?
We ask $60 per session. If $60 is a financial burden because your salary/income does not allow for that expenditure, we are open to sliding the fee -- it's needs based and we use the honor system. Payment is made at the time of (after) each session, either by cash or credit card.
Is this an in-person group? Or may I attend via Zoom, Skype, or another digital meeting room?
For now, we will be conducting groups virtually. This allows us to reach more people across the entire state. There are very few resources for male survivors, and our aim is to make this group as accessible as possible.
Is this a 12 step group?
No, it is not.
Is the primary function of the group to provide a place to talk about what happened to me?
This group focuses on experiences that occur as a result of the trauma, how the trauma continues to affect you today, coping, resilience, and healing. You may always use group time to talk about what happened to you. At some point, most members of the group mention or talk about the actual events that qualify them for attendance, but few do so every week. It's rare that this comes up repeatedly. And it is rarer still that more than one member relates details of their abuse on the same evening. Again, there's nothing that says you can't, or that it won't happen -- but it's important to say here that healing from trauma does not have to include talking about the actual events over and over again.
